Based in Lyon, France, a global chemical-industry hub, Axelera has built a strong foundation across France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Axelera projects focus on R&D, innovation, and business development initiatives targeting five strategic research areas: Renewable raw materials, Eco-efficient factories, Chemicals and materials for manufacturing industries, Recycling and recyclability, Preservation and restoration of natural and urban areas. The cluster also offers a full range of services developed to support its members’ growth: Accelerating innovation, Supporting members’ growth, Promoting business, Network facilitator.
DRIVING INNOVATION AND LOCAL ECONOMIC GROWTH
Axelera is driving innovation, and earning recognition for its strong results: the EU gave Axelera its prestigious Gold label for excellence. As of end-2016, Axelera had certified 286 R&D projects, funded for a total of €800 million. The cluster is a natural driver of economic development, helping the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region attract new businesses and foster business growth.

Axelera was created in 2005 by six founding members: Arkema, the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Engie, IFP Energies nouvelles, Solvay, and Suez.
The cluster enjoys the support of four financing partners: the French government, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional government, the Greater Lyon intermunicipal authority, the Greater Grenoble intermunicipal authority.
